A sauna practitioner whisking a guest in the treatment sauna

Treatments and rituals

In saunotus, warmth, steam, whisks, gifts of nature and old sauna traditions combine into a guided experience that calms the body and mind more deeply than ordinary sauna bathing.

what is saunotus?

An experience rooted in tradition

Saunotus is a guided, multisensory sauna ritual rooted in Finnish cultural tradition. It brings the old sauna traditions to life through mythology, ritual songs, gifts of nature, scents, the elements and löyly – the steam that is both the spirit of the sauna and its heat.

Where to start?

How a saunotus goes

  1. A hand-carved wooden door

    Arrival

Saunotus takes place in the Rauni treatment sauna. Treatment guests have a changing cubicle, a shower and an outdoor toilet.

  2. A sauna practitioner and guests on the benches during a sauna ritual

    The löyly greeting

The treatment begins with a calming löyly greeting.

  3. A sauna practitioner whisking a guest in the treatment sauna

    The treatment

The sauna practitioner guides the experience using heat, air, water, whisks, herbs, salt and honey. If you wish, a peat treatment can also be included. The intensity of the löyly, the heat and the treatment is adapted to your experience, wishes and energy.

  4. A relaxed guest wrapped in a grey blanket

    Settling and herbal tea

Saunotus includes a warming herbal tea. Deep saunotus also includes a light snack.

Is this for me?

  • The sauna practitioner always adapts the intensity of the löyly, the heat and the treatment to your experience, wishes and energy.

  • You can take part in the treatment naked, partly in swimwear or fully in swimwear. Birch whisks or towels can be used to cover the body.

  • Even a guest less used to löyly can find the session a deeply relaxing and safe experience.

  • I was in two minds whether to write this review, because this seems to be a hidden gem, and perhaps more reviews may make it less hidden and take away the charm/ peaceful atmosphere but here goes! One of the best experiences I’ve had in Finland. It’s much smaller compared to other more commercial saunas but that size is indeed one of the best parts of it. Nestled in a forest you are surrounded by tranquility all around. The sauna in itself was great and the sauna master Jonas even threw in some free sauna treatments for me, showed me how to properly use the birch branches and was very informative. I did not know there was a Finnish Sauna back home in Singapore until he told me!! Great communication and coordination with Olaf as well. Highly recommend this place, the service, the ambience and the traditional experience.

  • We had a lovely, relaxing time at Perinnesauna. We took also 20 min Saunaritual at first and it was really nice! 8 persons at the same time was really nice!

  • Had the best Finnish venik treatments and very powerful healing sauna/traditions around for the whole visit. Close to very beautiful wilderness and mystical nature. Warm recommendation!

  • 51st Finnish sauna review: this was my first sauna treatment with Jonas. Something that has to be felt to be understood. I took part in the 1.5 hr treatment with him and his touch and care was perfect. His application of the whisks, löyly, and ventilation let me lose my self rapidly into his complete control. A true master. Thank you. The savusauna which I visited afterwards was also perfect. Probably the nicest savusauna I’ve visited. It’s an intimate and friendly space. It certainly has a rustic Finnish charm about it, some may not like, but a bonus for me. The kind of place I’d recommend to sauna lovers wishing to slow down and connect deeply.
