Community

Saara and Laura's paths crossed for the first time already years ago, but a closer acquaintance has been born in the skirts of Sipoonjoki's traditional sauna in the last couple of years. A common desire for a women's community, the peer support it brings, and the possibility of sharing knowledge and skills made them start the Saunan Naiset community. The idea of the community is to act as a platform where women can share their stories, experiences, knowledge and skills and be each other's support.

The process of creating the community has already been a research trip into femininity, the diversity and expansiveness of the creative force. When two mothers live with children, it is guaranteed that there will be bumps in the road. This has been the red thread behind Saunan Naisten: There is no specific formula or lock in advance lyöthis path, but both sauna and womanhood cover the whole spectrum of life with its many twists and turns.

The Saunan Naiset community relies on the knowledge base presented by the podcast and the YouTube channel, putting all of this into practice at its events. So we invite everyone to listen and watch, and above all to participate. Join the events, be a guest on the podcast or just contact us.

Sahara

I am Saara, the nurse of the old Etelä-Pohjalainen smoke sauna, the mother of three children and the hostess of the Sipoonjoki traditional sauna. I have previously worked in education and teaching, but exhaustion and a feeling of inadequacy made me reflect on the direction of my life.

During the care leave, I was able to spend more time in the same forests and think about all the ways in which I could draw more from that important and empowering source for myself and others. I signed up for Metsämieli instructor training and studied natural cosmetics and soap making. Around the same time, the Sipoonjoki traditional sauna was built and opened in our backyard, and I became friends with Laura, who was an experienced traditional sauna user. This friendship inspired us to found "Sauna Women".

Even though I had grown up in the sauna culture, I started to delve into the Baltic Finnish sauna tradition with Laura's guidance. I had always loved saunas. My childhood home in the country had a real sauna world - three different saunas, one of which was an ancient smoke sauna. However, I didn't think that in my adulthood I would end up as the wife of a smoke sauna entrepreneur, and with that, a sauna hostess, and would study to become a sauna operator as a traditional sauna kisälli in the old style.

In the heat of the sauna, many sorrows and pains have been taken care of, joy and sorrow have been shared, sown, weeded and sung in all seasons, both with adults and children. And the special thing is that the good is shared with everyone.

The healing power of nature and the sauna have always fascinated me. We want to share this wisdom and tradition with you through Saunan Naisten and constantly learn more ourselves. Welcome to the journey!

Laura

I am Laura, the Sauna-Akka of Sipoonjoki Perinnesauna. In addition to sauna treatments such as steaming and massage, my work also includes various ceremonies that take place in the sauna at the turning points of the year cycle and life cycle. My work is based on Baltic Finnish sauna tradition and mythology.

The longing for the truth has been the driving force behind a couple of decades of yoga studies, bicultural family life and almost a decade of stay-at-home motherhood. This sometimes brutal introspection led me back through the bends to the Finnish forests and sauna familiar from childhood, which through the eyes of mythology opened up in a completely new way. The sauna has awakened a dormant longing for the wisdom of the ancestors and the power of women.

The sauna has been the realm of women, the heart of the home, the womb of life. Saunan Naiset, together with Saara, is an important part of my exploration of the sources of the concept of femininity, mythology, symbolism, rituals and what all this means for a woman here and now. What better platform for this than a sauna.
